The IT Graduate experience so far

04/01/23

I have now been an IT graduate at Demant for four months and so far the experience has been great.

The time has passed in the blink of an eye. In these first couple of months, I have been busy and involved in projects that have given me a lot of independence, responsibility, and insight into Demant as an organization. Demant is a large organization that contains so many people with diverse specialties, focuses and personalities. Getting to know the people in Demant and being introduced to the organization has been a pleasure and an experience that has broadened my horizon.

The graduate track is an interesting balance between that of a regular entry job while also having characteristics that make it a unique experience with a steep learning curve and a lot of possibilities. My first rotation in IT-security has given me the possibility to experience how theory, people, and a growing organization with many needs meet. I have been part of a bigger project reviewing our current processes up against international security standards and evaluating cyber risks and possible mitigations. This has been a great opportunity to get to know many aspects of the company. I have been lucky to meet a lot of great colleagues that have been both welcoming and happy to help with introducing me to everything. I have had a lot of support from my managers who, other than also being welcoming, have been very attentive to both my wellbeing as well as what I am passionate about.

What initially drew me to the graduate track was the possibility of working within different departments, gaining practical experience within different areas, as well as learning more about the different aspects of an organization such as Demant. Currently these possibilities feel a little bittersweet as this means that soon my current colleagues will no longer have as big roles in my day-to-day life. Nonetheless I am very excited for all the new experiences that I still have ahead of me. I find it incredibly motivating to know that I have so many possibilities to gain new knowledge and for improvement ahead of me.

Then, there are the other graduates. They are really making the whole experience amazing. It is great to be part of a team of people you can lean on and who are in the same situation as you, but with different specialties and perspectives. Demant has really lucked out with the candidates that they have selected. A part of the graduate experience that I am looking forward to is following my fellow graduates over the next years. Both my batch as well as the one from last year that has welcomed ours with open arms.

All in all, I feel that I have had a great start as an IT graduate in Demant. I am looking forward to all the experiences that are yet to come and incredibly grateful for the experiences and people that I have met in the first months that I have been working in Demant.
