Hi! I’m Claire, and I recently joined Demant’s Graduate Programme via the Audiology track. I graduated with my AuD from the University of Colorado Boulder earlier this year and moved abroad with my husband shortly thereafter. Moving across the world has certainly been a challenging step in my life, but I believe I will gain invaluable experience during my work rotations here in Denmark. More than that, I am excited to be working and learning alongside other professionals to obtain a more international perspective on audiology.
During my first week at Demant, the other graduates and I experienced an introduction to the company, including hearing about how each branch is integral to uplifting the business in order to support the numerous and ever-growing population of people with hearing loss throughout the world. We attended presentations from all sectors of the company and got to know one another as well as the current group of graduates through a social event that was planned for the end of the week. Personally, my favorite part of the introduction week was the day we spent at Eriksholm Research Centre. Learning about the research underway and stepping inside of the anechoic chamber was truly inspiring and made me confident in my decision to join Demant. I am eager to continue to learn about hearing health and hearing aids from an industry perspective as I am clinically trained as an audiologist. Moreover, even though I am no longer in grad school, the prospect of accumulating knowledge from so many people with unique backgrounds genuinely excites me as I firmly believe in life-long learning.
Like I previously mentioned, moving abroad is not without its ups and downs. However, the people I have come across both inside and outside of work have been very welcoming, which has eased this transition. I have connected with fellow expats who have provided me with both their experiences and insightful resources as well as Danes who have shared some words of wisdom on navigating Denmark. Remaining open minded as well as being patient with myself have been instrumental during my transition from Colorado, so if anyone is looking to make the move, I would say go for it—you truly never know what could happen tomorrow or who you might meet along the way.
